Sister Faustina in her black habit, standing on clouds with a golden halo, an open diary in one hand, the other raised gently toward the Divine Mercy image behind her. That image, painted under her direction in 1934, now hangs in homes and churches across every continent. She had spent the last years of her life in almost constant suffering, offering it all. Pope John Paul II canonized her in the year 2000 and established Divine Mercy Sunday for the universal Church, the first Sunday after Easter, fulfilling the promise she had carried alone for years.
